Black Rock Ranger Ticket Policy
The following is the ticket policy for the Black Rock Rangers for 2006 event year and beyond. For the purpose of this policy Black Rock Ranger applies to all personnel regardless of their duties within the Ranger Department. This policy applies only to the Black Rock Ranger department and does not apply to working in any other department for the Burning Man Project If you plan to volunteer for other groups during the event and are not sure how your volunteer time will be tallied, please insure that you contact either your Volunteer Coordinator or the Ranger Department Head for clarification. All Black Rock Rangers are expected to work on Saturday (Burn day).
Volunteering as a Black Rock Ranger does not guarantee or imply free admission to the event. Specifically, tickets should not be construed as compensation for past volunteer services, but are instead, an inducement and acknowledgment of one's willingness to continue serving the community of Black Rock City as a Black Rock Ranger.
Policy Overview
In the past gift tickets were determined by number of shifts worked or hours on shift. This has led to much confusion and disagreement, with Rangers working only the minimum that was required to receive a gift ticket. It has been misconstrued by some to be a contract between the Ranger department and volunteers for work done. This was not in keeping with the spirit of the gift ticket and service to the community. We are moving forward by stepping back in time to how it used to be. From this year forward there will be no set amount of shifts or hours that will be considered for a gift ticket. Rangers will still have to work a minimum number of shifts to be considered a Ranger and eligible for a reduced price staff ticket.
